Another group show is in the works—bringing back to Greece two artists that have begun to have Greek fans, Phil Darrah and Isla Burns.
Phil has a new series of paintings inspired by our visit to Mycenae/Epidaurus last fall.
Isla continues to push the boundaries of steel sculpture by incorporating cast bronze in her work. At times she incorporates actual pieces of Greece like the Tiniot marble she found at a quarry last fall and carried with her back to Alberta (see “Going Home”).

This year new artists are joining Isla and Phil: portraitist Carolyn Campbell, steel sculptor Ken Macklin and painter Allen Ball. Carolyn’s undeniable technical dexterity in portraiture is enhanced by her ability to ferret out the sitter’s personality and her sense of humour. Ken Macklin’s ability to defy gravity in his use of steel in conjunction with clay and concrete is surpassed only by his irreverence/playfulness of approach. Allen Balls’ whimsical works hark back to a period where paintings were both fun and beautiful.
