"More Canadians artists will be shown in Greece!"
June 2007 at The Zygos Gallery in Athens
The ArtExchange not only takes Canadian artists to Greece to re-charge their creative energies and learn new skills, but through the curatorial efforts of our Director, Dr. Caterina Pizanias, we have been organizing exhibits of Canadian artists in Greece to the delight of our Greek audiences.
Phil Darrah Phil has a new series of paintings inspired by our visit to Mycenae/Epidaurus last fall.
Isla continues to push the boundaries of steel sculpture by incorporating cast bronze in her work. At times she incorporates actual pieces of Greece like the Tiniot marble she found at a quarry last fall and carried with her back to Alberta (see “Going Home”).
This year new artists are joining Isla and Phil: portraitist Carolyn Campbell, steel sculptor Ken Macklin and painter Allen Ball. Carolyn’s undeniable technical dexterity in portraiture is enhanced by her ability to ferret out the sitter’s personality and her sense of humour. Ken Macklin’s ability to defy gravity in his use of steel in conjunction with clay and concrete is surpassed only by his irreverence/playfulness of approach. Allen Balls’ whimsical works hark back to a period where paintings were both fun and beautiful. Stay tuned for details of these exhibits, and if you want to see more images or learn more about these artists feel free to contact us at: cat@artexchnage-greece.com.
