| Dr. Pizanias is getting ready to take another class of engineering students from the Schulich School of Engineering to the Crete Polytechnic University—this will be the fourth year of a very successful programme of studying abroad, an experience that students describe as life-changing. The students will again take a math course and Dr. Pizanias’ interdisciplinary one on Minoan technological and cultural ingenuity while all live in the small village of Kounoupidiana, Crete. Formal learning aside, the students get to live Cretan life at its best—buying food from local producers, visiting olive presses, cheese-making places and above all, visiting the Manousakis Estate winery for our annual end of semester feast celebrations. Our time with Kostis Galanis, Alexandra Manousakis and their crew is simply unforgettable. This past summer the celebrations included the Ambassador of Canada to Greece and her entourage. The true stars of the evening? Nostos wines and the hospitality of Kostis and Alexandra! May Xenias Dias and his son Dionysos be with them always! |
