(days 1-3)
On
this participatory journey for art lovers and artists, we will divide
our time between the bustling, modern capital of Athens and the
idyllic beauty of the Greek islands. In Athens we will be inspired
by the contemporary art and culture that flourishes in its downtown
core. While strolling its ancient neighbourhoods we will visit Athens’s
small private musea and galleries most tourists do not see. (days 4-5)
Marble has always been a defining medium for art and an important part of the fables and lore of Greece. The Cycladic island of Tinos has been in the midst of this creative tradition, producing masters in the league of Yiannoulis Halepas and generations of carvers, sculptors and stone masons who have left their mark on the columns and decorative facades of the neoclassical buildings in Athens and the rest of Europe.
(days 6-10)
Tinos, one of the most beautiful of the Cycladic islands, rich in
myth and history is known to Greeks mostly as the island of the
Megalohari, the Virgin Mary. But it is also the birthplace of some
of Greece’s most important founding visual artists of the
last one hundred fifty years. The island’s artistic tradition
continues to this day: it has the highest per capita of working
art studios than any other place in Greece. And it has its own School
of Fine Arts!! On the island of Tinos, you will have ample opportunities to express yourself creatively. Painters, photographers, and sculptors alike will admire Tinos' rugged landscape covered with decorative dovecotes, ancient villages with cobblestone streets, and spectacular vistas of the Aegean Sea. Perhaps some of you will like to try your hand at marble carving? Our optional five day studio session caters to beginners and accomplished artists alike. The studio session includes your own piece of marble to carve and take home - a fitting souvenir of your Greek adventure!
(days 11-12)
While in the Cyclades, we'll take day trips to the neighbouring islands of Syros and Myconos.
(days 13-14)
Our last three days will be spent in Athens where sample the finest of Greek private estate wines, and take a day trip to the magnificent island of Hydra - physically gorgeous, historically and artistically relevant, and one of the best places in Greece for serious shopping!!
(Day 15)
Check out time.
